Comment by Evelyn Nichols on April 21, 2009 at 8:44pm - After discussion with my husband (the expert), he said that you should mulch your tree. Do not place mulch up to the trunk of any tree because that invites insects. Also, make sure that the Japanese maple gets watered in the cool of the day. Watering while the sun is out will scorch the leaves. If you live where it is very hot days, place Japanese maple in the semi-shade. Don't over fertilize your maple, fertilize your maple only twice during the growing season with Miracle Grow or Peters. (Follow directions). Hope this will help.
